Buzz that was not just a setup problem

A common bench pattern: the guitar comes in for lower action, but the real question is whether the frets will let that happen cleanly.

Problem

The symptom

The player wanted easier action and cleaner bends. The guitar could be adjusted lower, but one section of the neck started buzzing before the rest of the instrument felt right.

The diagnosis

Neck relief, string height and intonation were checked first. The buzz stayed in the same area, which pointed toward uneven fret height rather than a simple setup number.

The repair path

The right move is not always a full fret job. This kind of instrument gets evaluated for fret wear, loose frets, high spots and whether a polish, spot correction or full level/crown/polish is justified.

The result

The player gets a clear answer: either the setup can be completed cleanly, or the frets need to be corrected before the guitar can play low without noise.

Bench takeaway

If action has to stay too high to avoid buzz, the problem may be the fret surface, not the setup preference.
